In iPhone SDK: Developing iPad Applications, author Simon Allardice shows how to apply your existing knowledge of Xcode, Objective-C, and the iPhone SDK to create applications for the iPad. The course focuses on what’s different on the iPad, including design principles for the larger screen real estate, detecting device capabilities, and working with new Xcode project types.
Simon is also the author of iPhone SDK Essential Training.

You might recognize James from any one of his EIGHT Dreamweaver courses already in the lynda.com library. I caught up with James to see what he was most looking forward to.
“I’m really excited to be on board as a full-time author,” James told me. “To be honest, I’m probably most excited about the opportunity to take my titles further and go into projects in more detail. I’m always very interested in teaching WHY we do things, in addition to HOW. I think understanding the ‘why we do this’ can make people better designers.”
I asked veteran language coder Simon Allardice the same question.
“The feedback from my recent iPhone SDK course has been fantastic—and everyone wants more!” he replied. “So it wouldn’t surprise me if more advanced SDK titles appeared on the horizon. But you won’t see me being just ‘the iPhone SDK guy’; expect a lot of different subjects. Sure, they’ll all skew to the technical side, but I love jumping between technologies. Apple to Microsoft to Linux, iPhone to SharePoint to .NET, it’s all good. I’m a sucker for a new device, piece of software, or system, and always interested in finding the quickest way to learn and teach it. If I’m feeling generous, I’ll say I’m a renaissance geek; it’s entirely possible I just have a really short attention span.”

Straight from the recording booths this week, we have three FANTASTIC authors who may be familiar faces…
Jeff Sengstack, author of Premiere Elements 7 Essential Training, is back in the booth to bring us a few new and interesting courses that we will share with you soon!
Simon Allardice, all the way from Scottsdale (by way of Scotland), is in recording the highly anticipated iPhone SDK Essential Training. Simon is one of our original instructors from the Ojai classroom days, and recorded the UltraDev 4 course for us way back in 2002. We are thrilled he is finally able to make time in his busy schedule to get back in our booth!
Finally, Curt Frye, who released his first lynda.com course (Excel 2007: Financial Analysis) with us just this week (congrats Curt!), is in town recording two more greatly needed Excel courses: Excel 2007: Pivot Tables for Data Analysis and Excel 2008 for Mac: Pivot Tables for Data Analysis.
