New Artists’ Brushes from author John Derry

Sample painting by author John Derry, using his new Artists’ Brushes available for Photoshop CS5. author John Derry recently released a new set of Artists’ Brushes to work within Photoshop CS5. There are some really incredible examples of paintings done by users on his blog, as well as a preview of what these new Brushes are capable of.

John will be demoing these new Artists’ Brushes at the Southern California Adobe Technology Exchange in Long Beach on Saturday, June 19, and will be giving out a copy or two to lucky attendees. He will be co-teaching a Photoshop painting class with Russell Brown at the upcoming HOW Design Conference June 6-9. Class members will receive the brushes as a part of the class materials. There is still time to sign up for both of these events.

John will be back in the booths later this month and we can’t wait to share the new training he’s working on with you.

John Derry: Mastering Brushes and Photographic Craftsman

As one of the original creators of Corel Painter, John Derry could easily be known as one of the most qualified people on the planet to teach it.

With his brand new course, Corel Painter 11: Mastering Brushes, John shows how to recreate real-world art media techniques, optimize brush controls, and how to design custom brushes.

Also announced today, is the award honored to John by the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) as a Photographic Craftsman. The Photographic Craftsman degree is awarded in recognition for service to the photographic profession as an orator, author, and mentor. This personal and professional goal has been years in the making, and congratulates John on his accomplishment!

John Derry was here this week recording Corel Painter 11 Essential Training, due in the library in a few months. The white board scribbles lend a hint of what to expect from his new course!

John Derry is a pioneer in the field of digital painting and was one of the original creators of Corel® Painter™, long before Corel owned the product. Since 1985, he has leveraged his background in drawing and painting to advance the look and experience of traditional art-making tools on the computer. John received a master’s degree in painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art, and co-patented two inventions relating to expressive digital mark-making. John is a regular contributor to AfterCapture Magazine, Rangefinder’s publication focusing on photographic post-production work. He teaches expressive photographic interpretation workshops in the U.S. and abroad. John is Corel’s Painter Ambassador-at-Large, and is a practicing artist and photographer.
