12 tips for your next job interview

It’s said that luck favors the prepared. When it comes to job interviews, being well prepared is often what sets the best applicants apart from the rest. Here are 12 of my favorite job interview tips to make your next one go smoothly.

Before the job interview:

1. When possible, know the names and faces of the team you’re interviewing with; consider researching them on the company’s website, or on LinkedIn. Identifying shared experiences and interests helps set the stage for an easy, casual conversation during the interview.

2. Learn about the company’s products or services, and how they work. How does the company make money? How does it present itself by way of branding, marketing, and advertisement?

lynda.com welcomes a private interview with journalist Kathryn Schulz

Published by | Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

This year lynda.com is the proud season sponsor of UCSB’s Arts & Lectures series, and we were privileged to have one of their lecturers, Kathryn Schulz, participate in a personal interview at our facility before her public appearance through the UCSB program.

Ms. Schulz is an award-winning journalist whose freelance magazine work has appeared in such publications as The New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, and The Nation. As an international journalist, Schulz has explored Japan, the Middle East, and both Central and South America, and was awarded a Pew Fellowship in International Journalism in 2004.

During her interview with lynda.com co-founder Lynda Weinman, Schulz discusses why humans are so obsessed with being right, the relationship between wrongness and the creative process, and what her goals were when she sat down to write her book, Being Wrong—Adventures in the Margin of Error.

For more information about Kathryn Schulz’s philosophy, or to purchase her book, please visit beingwrongbook.com.

Lynda interviews poet and scholar Noah benShea

Published by | Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

When I first heard Noah benShea speak at our locally organized TEDx in Santa Barbara, I didn’t meet him in person. Rather, he was projected on the large screen, captured in a series of thought-provoking video monologues that worked as interstitials between the live conference sessions:

Most of the attendees and I found these videos riveting, so I was happy to meet Noah in person many months later. He agreed to come in to our studios for an interview. I recommend you check out the TEDx video first, and then if you enjoyed them, watch our interview to get to know a bit about the man behind the poetry.
