Hi, @Eric! Yes, paths got much easier to join in CS5. But I've consulted Deke for a CS4-friendly alternative:

--Get the white arrow (direct selection tool).

--Marquee the overlapping points at which the tops of the heart halves meet up.

--Press Ctrl+J (PC) or Cmd-J (Mac).

--Now marquee the two overlapping points at the bottom of the heart.

--Press Ctrl+J (PC) or Cmd-J (Mac) again.

That should do it. --Deke

Using CS4 due to financial reasons. Trying to join the paths is not easy. I fluked the path join on half of the heart but find it impossible to fluke the join of the path for the hole heart.
The message I get is
to join, you must select two open endpints, If they are not on the same path, they cannot be on text paths nor inside graphs, and if both of them are grouped, they must be in the same group.

Any clues
