As a fellow “late bloomer”, it’s always reassuring to hear of the often wayward path of those whom I look up to. After a really tough transition to a new career, I couldn’t be happier. It truly is a blessing to love what you do; I can’t imagine going back to just having a “job”. Thank you for posting this.

All too true. While I was finishing up college, I began doing contract programming for a website development firm. The owner wanted to use this piece of software I’d never heard of called Mambo. I went to look for good documentation on how to write code for it, but couldn’t find much. So I took it apart, wrote my own tutorial, then posted a link to it on the Mambo forums. The next day, I checked my web stats (this was slightly before Google Analytics) and found hits from practically every country on earth! And then the emails came. That tutorial changed the direction of my career.
