Leveraging the lynda.com Affiliate Program

Published by | Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Since the launch of the lynda.com Affiliate Program last November, we have seen fantastic growth in sign ups, clicks, and sales. It’s been wonderful to partner with our affiliates to share the lynda.com Online Training Library® with new members, and to reward our partners in the process.

We have added over 100 new banners that are directly targeted to many of the training courses and vendors being offered by lynda.com.  Current affiliates can view them all by logging into the Affiliate Control Panel.

Whether you are a lynda.com affiliate partner or promoting other affiliate programs, these tips will come in handy to help you promote partner programs and increase clicks and sales.

lynda.com author Mordy Golding chooses appropriate affiliate banners to complement his site’s content.

Website banners and text links: Add a combination of affiliate text and banner links to place above the fold on your website or blog.  Create a section or heading called ‘resources’ or ‘products I recommend’ and add affiliate tagged links to lynda.com.

Utilize lynda.com free content: Did you know that you can embed lynda.com tutorials directly from YouTube? Go to the lynda.com YouTube channel and select the movie you want to promote on your site. Then, below the embedded code on your site, add an affiliate-tagged link to lynda.com for your visitors to learn more and purchase memberships at lynda.com.

  1. Most internet marketers who are making decent money these days are publishing Cost-Per-Action, or CPA offers. The reason for this marketers don’t need to close high cost sales in order to get commission for a conversion.

I’ve been part of the affiliate program and made … well a little. The problem I have is most of the time I tell people about lynda.com in conversation and though I could awkwardly mention I’m an affiliate and have them open their account in a way where I get credit… BUT, it would be really nice if the signing up encouraged them more to mention this – heck I’d even surrender a little commission, which could be used as a discount for them…?

Hi Jeremy! First—thank you for being a lynda.com affiliate! We really appreciate you signing up to help spread the word about lynda.com through our affiliate program. We understand that sometimes it is hard to try to refer new faces to lynda.com through your affiliate link by word of mouth (after all, you want them to hear that you are passionate about lynda.com—not that you are passionate about getting a commission check!) One suggestion we’d like to offer to make this process easier would be acquiring business cards with a QR code that redirects potential members to sign up through your affiliate-specific URL. Business cards are a great way to take a conversation to the next step—and they’re also a great space to mention the free 7-day trial promotion that affiliates have the ability to offer. Websites such as qrcode.kaywa.com offer free QR generating services and discount websites like VistaPrint.com have free business card offers for new customers. If you’d like to chat more about the resource options lynda.com offers to help affiliates direct prospective new members, feel free to email me directly at Chelsea @ lynda.com (no spaces).
